Sunday Preview: At Long Last Leave

Almost lost amidst all the hubbub about the 500th episode is the fact that it’s just, you know, an episode.  It is likely to be forgettably boring: The Simpsons sneak into a secret town meeting to which they aren’t invited and discover it’s about whether to ban the family from Springfield. The town decides to evict the family, forcing them to join an off-the-grid community. Homer and Marge try to sneak back into Springfield, but receive hostile treatment from their former friends and neighbors, and begin to appreciate their new, welcoming home. Sounds like someone dusted off an early version…

Quote of the Day

“I remember another gentle visitor from the heavens.  He came in peace, and then died, only to come back to life.  And his name was . . . E.T., the Extra Terrestrial.  I love that little guy.” – Reverend Lovejoy

Photoshopping a Photoshopped Photoshop Job

“Madre de dios, the legends were true!” – Bart Simpson “Yes, Bart, whenever a teacher confiscates something, it ends up here: salacious halter tops, complete collections of Mad, Cracked and the occasional issue of Crazy.” – Principal Skinner  [Quote edited to correct my latest idiocy.  See comments for details.] Cracked recently ran a photoshop contest.  Since I’m trying to do the least amount of work possible for this post, I’ll let them explain (via Cinematical): Movie titles don’t tell you much. If all you had to go on was the name, you might think Indiana Jones and the Raiders of…

Crazy Noises: Moe Letter Blues

“Well, a fifty-nine, it’s a high F.” – Mrs. Krabappel In our continuing mission to bring you only the finest in low class, low brow, and low tech internet Simpsons commentary we’re bringing back our “Crazy Noises” series and applying it to Season 21.  Because doing a podcast smacks of effort we’re still using this “chatroom” thing that all the middle schoolers and undercover cops seem to think is so cool.  This text has been edited for clarity and spelling (especially on  “non sequitur”). A few weeks ago, I wrote that while “Postcards from the Wedge” was terrible, it was…

Reading Digest: The People Have Spoken! Edition

Image modified under Creative Commons license from original by Flickr user Takver. “Now I’m just an ordinary blue collar slob, but I know what I likes on teevee!” – Homer Simpson We have two links this week to long, long lists of ordinary people quoting Simpsons.  One was prompted, the other just broke out in a message board.  Both of them are heavy on ye olde Simpsons quotes with hardly a mention of Zombie Simpsons.  We’ve also got hilarious write-in candidates, Homer’s prayer of thanks, an undergraduate introduction to Simpsons, and lots of excellent usage.  Enjoy. Write-ins go beyond none…

How Not to Photoshop Your Crappy Merchandise

“Ohhh, The Tinkler.  I like the sound of that.” – Homer Simpson The image at right is for an AM/FM radio in the shape of Homer.  On the product website it is listed as “no longer available”, which is no great loss.  What I’d like to draw your attention to, however, is the remarkably smooth line the “water” makes as it runs along Homer’s torso.  And I mean really, remarkably smooth, as in no variance whatsoever.  It’s one thing to advertise crappy Simpsons merchandise, lots of links I come across do that.  It’s another to not even bother to photograph…
