Homer’s obsession with the TV show “Storage Battles” leads the family to discover Grampa’s past identity as “Gorgeous Godfrey,” the most feared, villainous man in pro-wrestling history.

What’s more amazing, he was once revered by a young Montgomery Burns, who now convinces Grampa to get back in the ring. But when Bart starts to adopt some of his grandfather’s former cheating ways, Grampa must reconcile with his past before it’s too late.

Homer’s love for a staged reality show about people’s crap leads to Bart being a bastard, and for some reason Grampa feels the need to fix it.  I have a hard time imagining Burns being into wrestling, but whatever.

    “Storage Battles.”

Great satire, guys. At least when MAD Magazine renamed things, they tried to make it a commentary on the product or character in question.

What do you know? That’s two episodes in one season about Abe Simpson having a storied past. I guess there’s nothing innately wrong with that, but in the hands of this show…

It’s also the one with two Bart-gets-a-girlfriend episodes (albeit related). My guess is that they sank so low in the sea of unpopularity that now they duplicate their ideas and dish them out with little intervals.

Was Grampa a wrestler before or after he was a song writer?

Tune to next season to learn about Grampa’s past as a comic strip writer! We also learn he was a circus ringmaster!

And of course, none of this explains why Burns and Abe would go kickline dancing.

Storage shows really are ripe for parody. My dad watches that stuff all the time. A shame we won’t get anything here.

    And ugh, that Harlem shack.

Yup….a freaking Harlem Shake couch gag! What–they didn’t like Gangnam Style?

Burns never realized Grampa used to be his favorite wrestler?

It just goes to show you what type of audience they’re now aiming their show at: hipster vimeo dwellers with meme syndrome. It’s not long before they start throwing in rageguy and trollface jokes.

A lot of people have talked about Homer’s evolution from well-meaning oaf to chaotic evil sociopath over the years, but how about Marge in the early part of this episode? I can’t fathom what her motivation would have been for trying to force Grampa Simpson into a hurried homosexual relationship? I know there was a joke about her wanting to seem hip but it just didn’t add up. Is this the same Marge who was embarrassed when a comedienne dared to mention her period? It sure didn’t seem like the same person. Also, I can’t understand what Marge’s/Lisa’s motivations would have been for opening the second box after their accidental discoveries in the first box. They opened the other boxes (marked “property of Abe Simpson”) as if it were Christmas morning. Lisa should have put her foot down. I find that Lisa’s “zombie” inconsistencies tend to be the most jarring for me. And does nobody remember Grampa’s relationships with Marge’s mother or Audrey Meadows? The entire thing made no sense.

Remember when Abe Simpson said he spent 40 years as a night watchman at a cranberry silo? Apparently the writers don’t.

Weren’t Abe and Burns in the same unit in WW2? Where did Abe get the time to be Burns’ childhood idol?

Grampa was wrestler in the 50’s so it was after they were in WWII together…and yet Burns did not recognize him.

Ok, couple of thoughts from self after watching this ep:
    1) Harlem Shake parody intro: funny for 5 sec, definitely lame for the rest of it.
    2) Storage Hunters ripoff plot didn’t go anywhere and whatever the family discovered there they could’ve discovered it anywhere else: the attic, Grampa’s retirement home locker, even at Burns’. Once again, the lamest of all possible scenarios has been chosen…
    3) Burns’ song is something new to the show. Especially if you consider that the whole thing feels too much like Stewie Griffin acts. And what was the deal with him even performing on stage? This wasn’t an episode about singers, or Burns, or even rich texan gentlemen. Anyway, if they would’ve added some f words to the show Family Guy would’ve sued. Great Shearer’s performance thou.
    4) The mid-way subplot with Bart acting mean just didn’t make any sense, because he never needed Abe to do it in first place. I mean it’s not like Lisa goes Dennis the Menace, not that she didn’t already at least once, but… I’d have bought that. Yet I’ve trouble buying Bart’s motivation, and as for the finale, well, it was heck predictable.
    5) The worst thing of all is there is nowhere even a reference to Gorgeous George. Are we supposed to Google, Wiki, whatever it? Just like that Woody Allen setting, unless you’re 80 years old or something, you simple won’t get it. This subject specific comedy is worse than stand up, really. It reeks.

P.S. Oh and btw I watched the previous Milhouse ep too. And liked it more, just for the pulling of the gigs. Too bad it didn’t go anywhere either, and was one of the worst uses of Milhouse as character (they could’ve at least invented Milhouse switching minds with his dad or something, hell Family Guy does shit like that all the time and here we have one of their obvious copycats anyway…)

P.P.S. Oh and what WAS the deal with Grampa being gay and Marge (?) going liberal supporter? FUCK did I just watch The Simpsons or fucking FAMILY GUY?!?

Harlem Shake? Seriously? Everyone took ten seconds to get sick of that thing, and you want to devote a portion of the show to it?
