This was always one of my favorite episodes.
I have a love-hate thing with this episode. I love Burns vs. Homer in golf, Grampa breaking the TV and immediately being put in the rest home, Cletus and his sister/wife/cousin Brandine looking for irregular clothes, Homer touting the praises of Magnetbox, Panaphonics, and Sorny, and Marge trying on Patty and Selma’s gross and slutty clothes after her Chanel dress gets shredded in the sewing machine. I hate that, for an episode written and directed by two women, it wasn’t as strong as the ones written by men (it had some good insight about rich vs. poor and what striving to be like them does to those around you, but that’s been done before and done better in other media), thus reinforcing the stereotype that women aren’t as funny as men.
