Between this, Ralph believing in a pyromaniac leprechaun, the scenes in the Knowledgeum (especially Krusty playing the “Let’s Make a Baby” game and Bart causing the invisible computer to catch on fire), and the climax with Mayor Quimby in the electric chair, this was a very weird episode, even by the loose, cartoony standards of Mike Scully as showrunner (season nine was pretty much a mixed bag of good and bad. For every episode like this one, “Bart Star”, “Lisa’s Sax”, “Lisa the Simpson” [the one where Lisa thinks she’ll end up stupid because of a genetic disorder], “Simpson Tide”, and maybe “The City of NY vs. Homer” [I did like the rehab musical and Homer’s flashback of when he went to New York as a teenager and got chased by a pimp, cat litter dumped on him by Woody Allen, and fell in a sewer with CHUDs], there were episodes like “Principal and the Pauper”, “Trash of the Titans”, “Miracle on Evergreen Terrace”, that musical clip show episode, and “Lisa the Skeptic” that fans seem eager to put on their “Worst. Episodes. Ever” list [while I agree that “Lisa the Skeptic”, the musical clip show episode, and “Miracle on Evergreen Terrace” aren’t very good, “Pauper” and “Trash of the Titans” at least are wroth it for some scenes/jokes. Plus, “Trash of the Titans” is relevant in hindsight if you imagine Homer as Donald Trump).
However, I will gladly take it over Al Jean’s current crop of failure. If they ended the show on season nine (with the last episode being that holdover episode from season 10 where Bart cares for a nest of eggs that turn out to be lizards who eat birds. As sappy as it is, I think it fits as a final episode, mostly because it was the last time Phil Hartman did voicework for the show and it would have been a cool twist if The Simpsons ended on a mostly-ordinary episode rather than something sprawling and insane).
(cont’d): …then this show wouldn’t be in the mess it’s in now (and if they had a finale movie made right after the episode with Bart caring for the bird/lizard eggs, then maybe they could have run wild and did something truly epic).

Who’s “we”? I only see tumbleweed and you raging on this website. No BUF, no RD on Fridays, even Jon eventually forgets to update his SPs. I think it’s fair to assume that Charlie has finally given up on the whole thing.
Among current readers, I rate as the oldest of them/not part of the clique here. For the past 6 years that I’ve spent on DHS, I’ve seen idiots, trolls, smart and interesting people, someone from America who spoke Russian, another quite unpredictable dude, and those who constantly do visit DHS, albeit commenting very rarely nowadays. Meanwhile, all this time, The fucking Simpsons was still airing in the background. This website achieved nothing, in fact, it failed to built a solid fan base centered on Seasons 1 to 11, like some other sites out there eventually did.
So when I’m commenting on these quotes, at least I’m doing the website a favor not to be completely abandoned and eventually, unhooked from the service. But I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if that happens one sunny day.
