“When will I learn? The answer to life’s problems aren’t at the bottom of a bottle. They’re on teevee!” – Homer Simpson In “There’s No Disgrace Like Home”, Homer attempts to prove to his family that they are, in fact, terrible. In the process, they peep in on some other households to see whether or not everyone lives in the same misery they do. After he fails, Homer wallows in the sorry state of the family he heads. Being Homer, he does so with a beer at Moe’s. Eddie and Lou walk in with a police German Shepherd. After drinking…

Watching It All Again (& A Little Season 1 Context)
“Okay now look, my boss is gonna be at this picnic so I want you to show your father some love and or respect.” – Homer Simpson “Tough choice.” – Lisa Simpson “I’m picking respect.” – Bart Simpson Over at her new blog, commenter Kokairu has gone back to the beginning, all the way. She’s watching everything Simpsons, starting with the shorts and going from there. Part 1 is about the Tracey Ullman shorts; Part 2 deals with the question of which was really the “first” episode. While I’ve never gone back and watched all the shorts, I think this…
Quote of the Day
“Are you sure this is legal?” – Marge Simpson “Don’t worry, Marge. Take a look at this.” – Homer Simpson “Myth: It’s only fair to pay for quality, first run movies. Fact: Most movies shown on cable get two stars or less, and are repeated ad nauseum.” – Marge Simpson
Crazy Noises: Loan-a-Lisa
Original concept art for Itchy & Scratchy “Up” parody in “Loan-a-Lisa”. The Itchy & Scratchy bit at the beginning of “Loan-a-Lisa” was, to put it mildly, creatively bankrupt. It starts by spending forty-five seconds re-enacting “Up” with nary a joke in sight; that would be bad enough, but Zombie Simpsons then makes things even worse. Instead of ending with some kind of “Up” inspired violence (a balloon house falling on them, a giant blimp attack, a pack of remotely controlled dogs tearing them to pieces) it ends by repeating not one, not two, but three (3) scenes from previous Itchy…

“Moe, I haven’t seen the place this crowded since the government cracked down on you for accepting food stamps.” – Homer Simpson
Synergy Wants Its Job Back
“Ah, and my dear, dear Smithers, you’re no longer needed at all. You’re fired. Ta.” – C.M. Burns We’re now two episodes into Season 22, and there has been nary a synergistic peep from FOX owned subsidiary IGN. Last year, they “reviewed” the premier before it was even broadcast and had one of their puff pieces up each Monday after a new Zombie Simpsons aired. This year, all they’ve got is the generic description text that FOX puts out, and the episode pages for both new ones do not have a link to a review. This means that the “Synergy”…
Wanted: Background Artist
Very late in “Loan-a-Lisa”, Lisa and Nelson go to an entrepreneur’s convention. There’s no real plot reason for this to happen, but they had to cram the Facebook guy into this episode somehow. And so was born one of the most pathetic scenes in a pathetic episode. In the credit where credit is due department, they did have some creative signs in the interior establishing shot of the convention, but that’s all they had. Once that was over, all that happened was crappy animation, lame exposition, and the laziest and worst kind of guest voice: the celebrity cameo. Mark Zuckerberg,…

Slapped Together
“As you may know, I might not be around much longer. So I’ve decided to give you your inheritance before I die, that way I can see you enjoy it.” – Abe “Grampa” Simpson Frankenstein’s Monster had less obvious stitch marks where the pieces were sewn together than this episode. We’ve got Lisa and Nelson getting involved (“Lisa’s Date with Density”), Marge splurging on something and returning it (“Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield”), Grampa passing on money to kick start the plot (“Lisa vs. Malibu Stacey”), the kids doling out their inherited money (“Bart the Fink”), and someone…
Quote of the Day
“Dad, isn’t this stealing?” – Bart Simpson “Read your town charter, boy. If foodstuffs should touch the ground, said foodstuffs shall be turned over to the village idiot. Since I don’t see him around, start shoveling!” – Homer Simpson
Sunday Preview: “Loan-a-Lisa”
Mark Zuckerberg is going to be on Zombie Simpsons tonight. Is it possible for a show to be even more dead to me? Yes, yes it is. For those of you who care, here’s the lowdown: When Grampa gives each member of the family a portion of his savings, Lisa and Marge spend their money in drastically different ways. Lisa invests in Nelson’s brand-new business venture, but soon realizes that her friend’s instant success might lure him away from the classroom. Worried that his judgment might be clouded, Lisa introduces Nelson to the well-educated and successful creator of Facebook, Mark…

Reading Digest: Mammary Euphemism Edition
“I think I’ll bottle feed that one.” – Marge Simpson This week’s Reading Digest has a slightly misleading title, as there is actually nothing in it about the glands for which our biological class is named. But having sorted through a week of Simpsons stuff in the wake of Katy Perry, I couldn’t resist it. There are no Perry links below, but that’s not for a lack of options, and ho-lee-shit, you don’t really appreciate the variety of synonyms in the English language until you see them all together like that. Anyway, between Perry and the fallout from Glee there…
