So, Springfield is in a state where they have laws about not selling liquor on Sundays (which would be pretty much every East Coast/Midwestern/Southern state), yet most of the later ones (specifically the Zombie episodes) show that they sell booze in supermarkets and the Kwik-E-Mart, which would put it in the West Coast (I’ve been to California and this is a thing).
So, Springfield really isn’t in any state, since it’s pretty much the new way of saying, “Any Town, USA”. Either that or the writers really do suck at continuity (both the classic-era ones and the Zombie-era ones).
I’m firmly on the East Coast, and supermarkets here sell alcohol.
Don’t eastern states (notably NY) have unconditioned alcohol sales on Sundays? I’m really asking because I presume they do, I mean even in Quebec, where a six-pack costs 10$ at best, you can buy liquor off premises from 9 AM to 5 PM, and on premises from 8 AM to midnight.
But on the other hand, laws could be stricter in Ontario, so yeah, that’s not an indicator…
Regarding what state Springfield is in, I thought this was clear like 3 years ago. Springfield has a lake, a sea shore, a mountain, a wasteland, and some snow sometimes. Please find a state with all of the above present at the same time.
What do you mean by “on premises” and “off premises”? The “Kwik-E-Marts” of Quebec sell beer from 8 am to 11 pm, any day of the week. Beer IS more controlled in Ontario.
“On-premises” sales occur where consumption is allowed (i.e. restaurants, bars, etc.) QC regulation for on-premises sales is noon to 3 AM Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 3 AM on Saturdays and 8 AM to midnight on Sundays.
“Off-premises” sales occur when one goes shopping for alcohol and are divided into two categories in QC: beer/wine (up to 13,5%) and liquor (13,6% and up). Off-premises sales of beer/wine in QC are allowed from 8 AM until 11 PM every day. Off-premises sales of liquor are allowed from 9 AM until 9 PM Monday through Saturday and 9 AM to 5 PM on Sunday.
And yes, Ontario laws are usually stricter, that’s why I was comparing QC to NY.
