According to the Hindustan Times Matt Groening is throwing a party: The creator of the legendary show, Matt Groening is reportedly planning a huge birthday party at Fox studios in Hollywood in 11 days’ time, plus what he describes as a string of on-screen surprises for fans. If they invite me I’ll bring a whole beer keg.

Spurlock Update: The Return of Jackie Mason
Jackie Mason, who voiced Rabbi Hymen Krustofsky, is apparently going to be making an appearance in the Spurlock special. At least, according to In Entertainment: The Simpsons are set to mark their 20th birthday celebration with an hour long special, including the reprise of Krusty the Clown’s rabbi father, played by Jackie Mason. The special, will start off with a documentary entitled “The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special: In 3D on Ice, which will be hosted and presented by Morgan Spurlock, the filmmaker behind ‘Super Size Me’. That also makes it sound like the documentary he’s been all over the place…

Monty Burns for Mayor, Updated
As a once and future New Yorker, I can’t say I’m surprised that mild billionaire Michael Bloomberg (who’s now convinced he’s a king – bonus points if you caught that reference) easily won last November’s election and will be serving a third term as mayor of New York City. The man spent $102 million of his own money on his campaign – an ungodly sum of money, but a mere a drop in the bucket when you consider that he has $17 billion sitting in his coffers. I’m not complaining, of course; if you’ve got the means, who am I…
Synergy Does Something Right
Kelsey Grammer has voiced Sideshow Bob eleven times, most recently in a pointless cameo in Season 20’s reprehensible “Wedding for Disaster”. IGN made a list of the top ten Sideshow Bob episodes and, to their enormous, synergy defying credit, they not only left out “Wedding for Disaster” but skunked all the Zombie Simpson episodes at the bottom of the list. The four Zombie Simpsons era episodes are numbers 10 through 7 and the good episodes come from number 6 up to the top. Everything fits and there isn’t one jarringly highly ranked bad one. Bravo. (via Springfield Springfield’s Twitter feed,…

Reading Digest: Chalkboard Compilation Edition
There are two links to the collected wisdom of Bart’s chalkboard writings this week; I like one, the other less so. Also, for some odd reason there’s lots of correctly quoted but bizarre usage this week, including from a chiropractor and a global warming denier. We’ve also got YouTube clips, some excellent usage and some always apt swipes at the Grammy Awards. Enjoy. Marge Simpson Sexy Calendar Pin-up Pics, "The Devil Wears Nada" – I suppose this was inevitable. Someone has created a little slideshow of all the “sexy” drawings of Marge from that horrible France episode. Dr. Hibbert (from…

Compare & Contrast: Car Humor
After we sat through Sunday’s “Rednecks and Broomsticks” Dave and I cleared our heads with some regular Simpsons. We decided that we should watch a good Lisa episode to cancel out the bad one so we threw on “Lisa vs. Malibu Stacey”. It didn’t occur to me before we picked it but both of these episodes have extended scenes with the family in the car. In the Zombie Simpsons scene the only thing that happens for almost a minute is the kids playing the “Bonk It” game. It goes on and on (and on and on) and there are less…

Homemade Simpsons Rings
There’s nothing quite like repurposing Simpsons crappy merchandise creatively. Etsy member davidgieske has taken Simpsons figures (along with a lot of other stuff) and mounted it on jewelry. Neat. Click here for these and other similar items.
Synergy Lashes Out
Image used under Creative Commons license from Flickr user Robotskirts. “Let’s come to our senses everyone, this witch hunt is turning into a circus.” – Goody Simpson Once again setting aside the ridiculously high number (6.1), this is now the third week in a row that IGN’s Simpsons review has been downright harsh. Not only did they think Cletus was overused, but they hated on the Wiccan storyline almost without exception. There’s no doubt in my mind that this isn’t going to be a permanent trend, but it still makes my job easier and as a profoundly lazy person I…

“How was your day at work dear?” – Marge Simpson “Oh, the usual. Stand in front of this, open that, pull down this, bend over, spread apart that, turn your head that way, cough.” – Homer Simpson
Crazy Noises: Rednecks and Broomsticks
“Marge, they don’t have anywhere to stay. And they’re geniuses! They’ll solve all our problems, they’ll elevate us to the status of kings on Earth!” – Homer Simpson “Mr. Simpson we all have nose bleeds.” – Black Nerd In our continuing mission to bring you only the finest in low class, low brow, and low tech internet Simpsons commentary we’re bringing back our “Crazy Noises” series and applying it to Season 21. Stochastic Simpsons Imagery
A couple of different users mentioned this on ye olde Twitteree, but in my estimation it’s worth the forty-five seconds of effort necessary for a blog post because it’s just too damned enjoyable. This: Simpson Mania: 35 wonderful pictures is a gallery of . . . well, a lot of things. There’s Simpsons tattoos. There’s promotional stuff from the movie. There’s food of various kinds. There’s things we’ve talked about here before and things I’ve never seen. It’s cool.
High Art Simpsons
“Indeed. Marge you find the inner beauty of your subject and bring it out for all to see!” - Professor Lombardo Check out these fan-fugu-tastic Simpsons renditions by David Barton. He’s done them in the styles of famous artists. Here’s Marge in Vermeer’s “Girl with Pearl Earring”: The necklace instead of the earring really makes it. Then there’s Groundskeeper Willie, van Gogh style: When a man this intense says ‘Ach! Keep off the grass’, man, you’d better keep off the grass. There are two more at the site, one of Apu as Salvador Dali and a Rembrandt style Homer. Check…
People Like Witches (Sort of)
The numbers are in and last night’s gruel-thin effort at witch humor managed to entice 8.99 million viewers. That’s the third highest all year and brings the Season 21 average up to 8.39 million. In addition to that small triumph, Zombie Simpsons not only managed to out draw The Cleveland Show (giving it a commanding 5-2 lead in their increasingly lopsided ratings duel), but also beat Family Guy by more than half a million viewers. That’s the first time in a long time a first run Zombie Simpsons has done that. Oh well.
