“Ooh, I hear this really sucks.” – Lisa Simpson For the third summer in a row, we at the Dead Homer Society are looking to satisfy your off-season longing for substandard commentary on substandard Simpsons. This summer we’ll be looking at Season 10. Why Season 10? Because we’ve already done Seasons 8 and 9 and we can’t put it off any longer. Prior to Season 10, we watched as the show started falling over, this is when it fell over. And while the dust wouldn’t settle completely for another season or so, there is no bigger gap in quality than…

Quote of the Day
“We call this guy The Chief. He’s been here in 1968, never says a word, never moves a muscle.” – Leon Kompowsky “Hey, Chief.” – Homer Simpson “Hello. Well, it’s about time somebody reach out to me.” – The Chief Happy 20th anniversary to “Stark Raving Dad”! Original airdate: 19 September 1991.

“People, we’re in danger of losing our funding. America isn’t interested in space exploration any more.” – NASA Guy “Maybe we should finally tell them the big secret, that all the chimps we sent into space came back super intelligent.” – Other NASA Guy “No, I don’t think we’ll be telling them that.” – Space Chimp Happy birthday David Mirkin!

“I say we call Matlock, he’ll find the culprit. It’s probably that evil Gavin MacLeod or George ‘Goober’ Lindsey.” – Abe “Grampa” Simpson “Grampa, Matlock’s not real.” – Bart Simpson “Neither are my teeth, but I can still eat corn on the cob if someone cuts it off and smushes it into a fine paste. Now that’s good eating!” – Abe “Grampa” Simpson
Reading Digest: Pre-Halloween Creepiness Edition
“Actually, Mr. Simpson, they do know a great deal about the process of mummification. First they pulled the brain out through the nose with an iron hook, and stuffed the insides with sawdust and onions.” – Mr. Bergstrom “Eww, gross.” – Lisa Simpson “Ooh, pretty creepy. Still, I’d rather have him chasing me than the wolfman.” – Homer Simpson We’ve got two pre-Halloween links to rather disturbing images this week. One is directly from the show, the other is what even I assume is an un-licensed advertisement for products which are themselves creepy. There’s also a couple of fan made…

“Marge, it’ll cost eighty-five hundred dollars. We only have five hundred in the bank and that leaves . . . eighty hundred we need.” – Homer Simpson
10 Heartbreaking Simpsons Moments
– By Andreas “Don’t cry for me; I’m already dead.” – Barney Back in June, I composed a list of “10 Scary Simpsons Moments.” This is a companion piece of sorts, demonstrating the show’s emotional breadth with ten of the sweetest, tenderest, and most touching moments of the show’s run. Although renowned for its cynicism and satire, The Simpsons always had powerful, James L. Brooks-influenced emotion at its core. It was never just about hollow laughs; instead, each episode was invested in relationships, families, and the oft-painful quirks of human behavior. But it also never took the typical sitcom shortcut…

Hank Azaria Implies Zombie Simpsons Is Stale
Hank Azaria is starring in a new sitcom called Free Agents. He plays a depressed PR man who, if the poster image is anything to go by, sleeps with his partner. Wackiness and sexy results no doubt ensue. (It premiers tonight at 10:30 on NBC.) More importantly, he did a promotional interview with Vulture, and said some interesting things: How much of a drain on your career is The Simpsons at this point? It’s about four hours a week. Do you have any new characters in you? Really, no. A few years ago, I kind of … ran out. I’ve…

Zombie Simpsons Is Unappetizing
A guy from Top Chef is going to be on Zombie Simpsons (ugh) next Sunday. That prompted Denver food blog Cafe Society to write up their favorite ten food scenes from The Simpsons. There’s plenty of Hulu and YouTube, as well as an animated .gif of Homer trying to eat that pie in “Lisa on Ice”. Naturally, there’s also not a trace of Zombie Simpsons. The only double digit season episode is when Grampa and Jasper are tripping on the hippie juice in Season 10. I come across lists and articles like this often enough that it’s now actually surprising…

Reading Digest: Zombie Simpsons Sadness Edition
“Mom, were you ever planning to step in and put a stop to this?” – Lisa Simpson “Normally your father’s crackpot schemes fizzle out as soon as he finds something good on TV. But this season . . .” – Marge Simpson We’re just two weeks away from the tediousness of new Zombie Simpsons and that fact has been noticed by many a fall TV preview. A couple of them are linked below, but even people who write serious television season previews can hardly be bothered with Zombie Simpsons. The dominant feeling seems to be one of apathetic ambivalence. Most…

My Son Is a Nerd!’.” – Kent Brockman “My son returns from a fancy East Coast college and I’m horrified to find he’s a nerd.” – Rainier Wolfcastle “I’m laughing already.” – Kent Brockman “It’s not a comedy.” – Rainier Wolfcastle “Oh.” – Kent Brockman

The Rest of Twitter Knows What It Doesn’t Like
“And our new number one hit, ‘I Do Believe We’re Naked’ by Funky See Funky Do, replaces ‘We’re Sending Our Love Down the Well’ which plunges all the way down to number ninety-seven.” – Not Casey Kasem Continuing yesterday’s theme of “nobody cares about Zombie Simpsons”, I’d like to direct your attention to New York Magazine’s “The Anticipation Index”: Rankings are based on the volume of related Twitter and blog activity. Only future events are included (movies, for instance, fall off the list after their opening day.) Flames and arrows appear when an event has jumped or fallen at least…
